Telefunken
This Radio was a freebie at the end of one of the HRSA markets. It just goes to show that if you hang around at the end of such gatherings you pickup things that people don't want to take home. I once picked up 1500 7" singles at the end of a record fair for $100 because the person was going to put them in the skip.
Telefunken had close ties with AWA. In fact they owned a percentage, with Marconi owning the remainder in the early years following patent breaches. This caused issues over the years with the hostilities to Germany. However, AWA retained the rights to the Telefunken patents.
This radio was apparently built in 1941, although it's hard to date.
It's quite imposing in its size and weight, being much larger than Australian table sets, but not of console size.
The radio needs plenty of work, but is otherwise complete, with all the valves, the speaker, and transformer present. If I can get it working one day it should sound impressive given the size of the speaker and the area of the cabinet space it takes up.
Five Years On
I've finally decided to do something about this radio as I'm doing some other wood work.
