National Panasonic

R-238R 1973 - 1976

This was the end of the era for decent AM / Shortwave radios in this style in Australia. While not totally basic it offered reasonable performance at a reasonable price point, although it was a fair amount more expensive than the Sanyo I bought as a young teenager. The next generation dropped short wave for FM. Although SW lived on in more expensive larger radios.

It is an 11-transistor, 3-band portable powered by three UM1 batteries.

Features: flash tuning indicator, roller dial knob. Two-step tone switch, 700 mW output, 3" dynamic speaker. Jacks for external power, antenna, speaker and earphone. (MINGAY'S PRICE SERVICE)

Frequency range: MW, 525 - 1605; SW, 4.75 - 18.0 MHz.

With leather style carrying case.

There was also the Model R-238W with different short-wave coverage.

Price in 1974 was $45.95 or $422 in 2022.

This radio is working but requires some work.
