Eclipse

Eclipse was the umbrella brand for many different marks. Including:

Croyden
Eclipse
Endeavour
Monarch
Mercury
Peter Pan
Saxon
Univox

Albert Aarons & Saul Clarence Aarons founded the company in May 1926 importing components and then manufacturing radio etc. Saul had worked at Tunafone during 1925.

By 1930 they were advertising the “Lewbury” brand of power  transformers, chokes and high power resistors. It is not clear if these were manufactured by Eclipse for Tilbury & Lewis Pty. Ltd. or vice versa.

In March 1931 they advertised for wholesale representation for distributors in all states of Australia. That year they established a factory in Queen’s Bridge Street, South Melbourne. At their new premises they manufactured Saxon loud speakers, as well as radios under several brands.

In 1938 Albert retired and Saul began negotiations with Louis Abrahams & Arthur Warner. 

The formed EIL (Electronics Industries Limited). This consolidated numerous companies. Astor being the most well known. In 1940 Adelaide company National was brought into the fold.

Following the war radio production continued apace and many of the Eclipse brands continued until well into the 1950s.
