Astor JJ

This was purchased for a not inconsiderable amount in Adelaide at the HRSASA sale in May 2021. There was also a similar LJ model. However, the LJ had been converted from battery to A/C operation at some point. The LJ does have the On/Off switch and Tone control that the JJ lacks. The LJ also uses a different chassis.

This radio could be upgraded to have a tone control and On/Off switch as the sculptured centre moulding covers the requisite holes.

It is a truly a magnificent radio with a beautiful rich tone from it's 6" Rola speaker.

I powered it up on the Variac and as it worked for half an hour without trouble. I have used it since. It probably requires new capacitors, and certainly a new power cord, but while it works as well as it does....
