Philips
134CThis radio was puchased as part of the Tyab hall in early 2021.
There were many versions of this radio, the original design being from RCA in America. There were also Fleetwood and Mullard branded versions.
This one is a battery only set, there were A/C D/C models.
This is a later set, the early sets had a different grill, volume control and tuning was on either side. Interesting is the on/off switch incorporated in the dial cover. When flipped up the radio turns on. The body is aluminium and the end pieces Bakelite.
Inside, it's a conventional steel chassis, with four or five valves. I'm not sure if the A/C versions are live chassis as with other portables such as the Healing, and all American fives.
This radio is is poor contition cosmetically, and will need strippiing back and repainting. The dial clear plastic also needs to be replaced.
Because these sets were made of aluminium, they lasted quite well and are faily easy to come by cheaply.
I have since purchased a few more of these sets in their various guises. I am just waiting on the Society to sell a battery eliminator kit.
