Healing Moderne

The Moderne (or more commonly known as Scales), was a unique design made to hang on the kitchen wall - although you would need a good hanger and a strong wall as the radio is very heavy.

It's cabinet followed the pattern set by Kriesler radios of the time with a thick base and a domed upper. Colours were Walnut, Ivory, and Green. They wern't produced for long, possibly because of heat build up - they are badly ventilated, and the complexity of working on the vey crowded chassiss.

These have a 6"Rola speaker mounted on the chasiss behind the grill.

This example belongs to a friend and was in poor condition. It was cracked in a number of places and the clear dial cover had shrunk. It also required a complete set of valves. Beyond that, it was straightforward if very fiddly.

There were two valve line ups, this one had the following: 6AN7, 6AR7, 6M5, and a 6X5 rectifier.

I had mojor trouble with the volume on/off switch that had to be replaced. The 6M5 sits directly below and touches the AC cables!
