Philips

Philips Model 111A was the first of the "Tinnie" series of portable valve radios that was made.

Philips Australia had little to do with the case of this radio. It was a direct copy of the RCA American design. In fact it would not surprise me if the cases of these radios were imported from America. They were sold from around 1950 to 1953. My example has 19 January 1951 hand written inside.

The Philips version is simplified in that it it doesn't have any bright work and has the stations labelled on the dial.

Valve line-up is similar to the RCA except for a 1Q5 Octal.

1T4, 1R5, 1T4, 1S5, and 1Q5GT.

There was also a Mullard (MBS 1050) variant that had a different dial sans stations.

There were at least two other case sizes with various variations that Philips used in the 1950s. 

I had an example of one of these, but it has gone missing. This example was bought at the HRSA July 2025 Auction for $15.
