Electrosound

Electrosound was established shortly after the war in 1946 and began by manufacturing radios.

From the mid 1950s they were the importers of SABA radio and television chassis that were incorporated into large radiograms. As SABA was a West German company there were early problems with their televisions.

The company specialised in large elaborate cabinets, including an enormous cocktail cabinet that sold for 200 gns. in 1948.

From the mid 1950s products were branded Electrosound-SABA, and by 1960, as with many other small brands that did not survive the introduction of television, the compnay was gone.

As the SABA brand was sold through the 1960s, it is possble they simply became an importer of radios.

This the company that my company is named after.

I came across a newspaper Positions Vaccant ad in the the Sydney Morning Herald of 5 May 1951 for a sales person. The ad isn't remarkable, but the address given is!

The radios

The first is a Model 414 from 1947. It's in beautiful cosmetic condition and is original under the chassis. 

The cabinet is metal and it has a 6 inch speaker, but is not a large radio.

This has been in the collection since 2015. 

This radio is in somewhat rougher condition. It seems to be a 534 or 534F. It features 6 inch Rola speaker and two shortwave bands.

Again the cabinet is metal.

This was purchased in a HRSA auction in about 2021.

It is working, yet to be refurbished. I don't think the knobs are original, the grill cloth certainly isn't as it's a central heating filter!
