By the time these came along in 1977 they were being produced in Hong Kong and Singapore for next to nothing. Although the case design is a little above the really cheap ones, inside it is standard fair.

Panasonic R-1018 in various colors known, comes with a full size hard type see through plastic case including space for the earphone.

This model sold in Australia between 1977 & 1980 for $7.95.  That's $39 in 2022.
